Baptism and Confirmation

The hymn by Sydney Carter, One more step along the world I go, illustrates life as a journey and our calling upon God to be our companion and guide. There are numerous milestones on the journey which help to root and ground our faith.

Baptism marks the beginning of a journey with God which continues for the rest of our lives. This first step is a response to God's love. It is also a celebration, a time to come together with family and friends; remembering that everyone is loved by God, is part of a wider community and has a place with God's people.

Confirmation marks the point in the Christian journey at which you affirm for yourself the faith into which you have been baptized, either as a child or adult, and your intention to live a life of committed discipleship.

This affirmation is confirmed through prayer and the laying on of hands by the confirming bishop. The Church also asks God to give you power through the Holy Spirit to enable you to live in the way of Jesus. Many Christians have found it to be a very significant moment in their life on their journey of faith and discovery.
