Baptism

Baptism for babies and children is for many the first milestone on the Christian journey. In this service parents thank God for his gift of life and make a decision to start their child on a journey of faith. The godparents promise help and support to both the child and the parents and the church welcomes the child and to pray for all the family. For the child, being baptized at a Christening marks the start of a lifelong journey of faith as part of the local and worldwide Christian family. If you would like to know more about the meaning of baptism, more information is available here.

In Winchcombe Parish, we baptize the children of anyone who professes the Christian faith, seeks to follow Christ and to bring up their children as Christians. We also baptize adults who have not been baptized as children or in another Christian denomination.

We usually baptize children on the first Sunday of each month during our All-age Morning Worship or on the third Sundays of the month during our Parish Communion service. We can also, by arrangement, have services outside of the main cycle of regular services.

If you wish to have your child baptized, please complete this form giving us a few basic details and our Baptism co-ordinator, Julia Hook, will get in contact with you. Alternatively, speak to one of the other clergy who will be very pleased to discuss it with you.
